ACID WASH: Draining of pool-washing plaster with muriatic acid solution. Done to plaster to remove stains.
ALGAE: Small, primitive plants that grow in water. Algae discolors pool water and stains pool surfaces.
ALGAECIDE: Any chemical that can be used to kill or prevent algae.
ALKALINE: The property of a chemical which allows it to neutralize acid.
CLARITY: The Degree of transparency of water.
DIATOMACEOUS EARTH: (DE) Organic powder used for filtration in DE Filters.
FILTER CYCLE (Filter Run): The time required to run all pool water through the filter.
FILTER RATE: The number of gallons of water that may pass through filter media per minute.
MURIATIC ACID: Type of acid used to lower pH in pool water.
PARTS PER MILLION (PPM): Ratio used to determine the amount of particles in water.
PH: the measure of acidity or alkalinity in water where 0 is totally acidic, 7 is neutral, and 14 is totally alkali.
SHOCK TREATMENTS: The process of adding large doses of liquid or granular chlorine to pool water to destroy excess bacteria or algae.
SKIMMER WEIR: Door on the skimmer throat that prevents debris from escaping back to the pool from the skimmer.
SWIMMING LOAD (Bather Load): The number of people in the pool at any given time.
